Terms of Service for Confusables for Android

The app and these website pages

This page covers Confusables for Android and its Support, Privacy and Terms pages. The hosted website, web learning activities and public API have separate website terms. Downloading the app does not grant rights to integrate or redistribute the engine or use the hosted API in production.

Visiting this page does not by itself record acceptance of a new contract or change an existing app license. Any additional agreement that requires acceptance must be presented with the action that requests it. These terms do not retroactively change rights supplied with a copy you already obtained.

Using your copy

You may use a lawfully obtained copy of the app on a device you own or control for personal, classroom and workplace learning. This permission does not authorize selling or redistributing the app or incorporating its engine or learning materials into another product. Rights supplied with your copy and rights required by law remain available.

If you obtain the app through Google Play, the applicable Google Play terms and distribution rights also apply, including any permitted family sharing. These terms do not narrow those rights. A separate written license supplied with another authorized distribution controls the rights it expressly covers.

The software and original learning materials are proprietary. Confusables claims no ownership of ordinary English vocabulary or your writing. Applicable legal exceptions and third-party license rights remain available. Learners who need a parent or guardian to authorize use under applicable law should have that assistance.

Learning and writing suggestions

Learning activities use bundled questions and authored answer keys. They do not use the checking engine to grade answers. Explanations and scores support practice and do not certify proficiency, promise a learning outcome or replace a teacher’s judgment.

The writing checker covers a limited set of English word confusions. It can miss an error, flag wording you intended or suggest an unsuitable replacement. Suggestions need your review. The app does not change your writing by itself, and its local practice comments are not published to other people. You remain responsible for any writing you later share. The app does not provide professional advice or factual verification.

Your writing, privacy and temporary progress

You retain your rights in your writing. Checking and learning work on your device. The app does not send your writing or learning answers to the hosted Confusables API. The Privacy Policy for Confusables for Android explains memory-only information, support correspondence and platform services. These terms do not add permission to collect, publish or train models on your writing.

Drafts, comments, answers and results are held in memory and are not a saved document or backup. Leaving an activity or the operating system ending the app can clear information. Copy writing you want to keep somewhere suitable before closing the app. The Support page describes the current app’s behavior.

Opening Support, Privacy or Terms in a browser is a website request, with the hosting processing described in the privacy policy. Email, browsers, keyboards and other system services have their own terms and privacy practices.

Respectful and lawful use

Use the app and its website pages lawfully and respect other people’s rights. Do not misrepresent the app as your own, redistribute its learning banks or branding without permission, or interfere with website security. Restrictions do not override uses that applicable law or the license supplied with your copy permits.

Availability and your rights

A separate license supplied with your copy controls the warranties and liability it expressly covers. There is no separate promise on this page of perfect checking, permanent compatibility, recovery of temporary progress, future features or a support response deadline.

Subject to any applicable distribution license and rights and warranties that the law does not allow us to exclude, the app and these website pages are provided as available without a warranty of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose or uninterrupted access. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from their use.

Nothing on this page excludes or limits liability for fraud, deliberate misconduct, gross negligence, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any responsibility that the law does not allow us to exclude or limit. Mandatory consumer rights and remedies remain available. A website update or withdrawal does not revoke rights supplied with an installed app.

Changes and contact

Updates will appear here with a new effective date. Changes do not apply retroactively to an earlier dispute or remove accrued rights. A new app license or material change requiring acceptance must follow the applicable distribution process and law. If part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest applies only to the extent the law permits.
