Terms of Service

Effective October 30, 2026

These terms describe permitted use of the Confusables website and public services. Questions are welcome at contact@confusables.io.

Services covered

These terms cover confusables.io, its Demo gallery, Quiz and WorkplaceTest websites, and the public hosted Confusables API at api.confusables.io. The native apps have separate iOS terms and Android terms. A separately agreed written evaluation or commercial agreement controls the services and rights it expressly covers.

Reading a page does not by itself record your acceptance of a contract. If a particular service or agreement requires acceptance, its terms must be presented with the action that requests it. These terms do not retroactively change an agreement you already accepted.

Using the websites and learning tools

You may visit the websites, try the demonstrations and use the learning activities for personal, classroom and workplace learning through their intended interfaces. You may share links to these pages. Learners who need a parent or guardian to authorize their use under applicable law should have that assistance.

The homepage is a demonstration. Its Post button does not publish your writing to a social network or other users. Quiz and WorkplaceTest use authored questions and answer keys. They do not use the checking engine to grade your answers. Examples, explanations and scores support practice and do not certify writing ability or guarantee a learning outcome.

Public API evaluation

The public API is available for demonstration and evaluation, including programmatic requests and temporary integration prototypes, within the limits in the API documentation. An account or API key is not required for anonymous evaluation. An API key identifies an allowance and does not by itself grant production or commercial rights.

This permission does not authorize using the public API as a production dependency, reselling access, or copying, distributing or embedding the engine. Self-hosted evaluation requires separate written permission. Confusables is in development, with no current commercial engine offering, published prices, billing plans or license agreements to purchase. Evaluation and integration enquiries are welcome.

The public endpoint has no service level agreement or availability commitment. Limits and features can change, and the endpoint may be suspended or withdrawn. There is no promise of permanent free access, a higher allowance or a particular support response time.

Your writing and the limits of suggestions

You retain your rights in the text you submit. Confusables claims no ownership of it. Submitting text permits the processing needed to check it and return the requested response, as described in the website privacy notice. It does not grant a right to publish your text or use it to train models.

The checker covers a limited set of English word confusions. It can miss errors, flag wording you intended or suggest an unsuitable replacement. No findings does not mean that text is correct. You remain responsible for reviewing suggestions and deciding what to publish. The service does not provide professional advice or factual verification.

Please submit only material you have the right to process. Do not send confidential, personal, regulated, credential or security-sensitive material to the public demo or API. Hosted checking sends text to a server. It is different from checking inside the native apps.

Protecting public access

Use must be lawful and respect other people’s rights. Do not bypass rate limits, forge caller identities, deliberately overload or disrupt the service, attempt unauthorized access, or interfere with security controls. Access to the public service may be restricted or revoked for misuse. Security concerns can be reported to contact@confusables.io.

Software, content and branding

The Confusables software is proprietary and is not open source. The site design, original learning materials, code, name and logo are protected by applicable intellectual property law. Third-party materials remain subject to their owners’ rights. No ownership of ordinary English vocabulary is claimed.

Permission to use the public interfaces does not grant permission to reproduce or redistribute the software or learning banks, create a competing hosted copy, resell the materials, or use the branding to suggest endorsement. Separate written permission is needed for those uses unless applicable law already permits them. Quotation, accessibility and other rights that the law protects remain available.

Privacy and external services

The website privacy notice explains hosted processing, operational logs, hosting providers and correspondence. Privacy information for the web learning activities is available within those activities. These terms do not expand the collection or uses described in the applicable notice.

External websites and app stores have their own terms and practices. A link does not promise their availability or make Confusables responsible for services they operate.

Warranties, responsibility and your rights

Except for rights and warranties that applicable law does not allow us to exclude, the public services and learning materials are provided as available, without a warranty of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose or uninterrupted operation.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from use of the public services, including lost profits or business interruption. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, deliberate misconduct, gross negligence, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any responsibility that the law does not allow us to exclude or limit. Mandatory consumer rights and remedies remain available.

Changes and questions

Updates will appear on this page with a new effective date. Material changes to an agreement that requires acceptance will be presented for acceptance where required by law. Changes do not remove accrued rights or apply retroactively to an earlier dispute. If part of these terms cannot be enforced, the remaining parts apply only to the extent the law permits.
